(Post 5) Double page spread magazine analysis

Double page spread magazine analysis

I have analysed 2 double page spreads, which are different from each other. I purposely chose different contents pages, so it is more interesting and not repetitive.

My first double page spread analysis is on famous pop artist, Justin Bieber.

There is a heading at the top of the magazine, which is also a quote from an exclusive interview in which Justin Bieber said “Girls me a headache” Even though this is a quote, it is also used as a heading, as the quote is in a large font and is at the top of the page.

The main image is of Justin Bieber, which takes up the whole of the right page. In this image he is directly looking at the camera, so he is directly looking at the reader and making eye contact with the reader. This makes it feel more personal for the reader, as it feels he is directly looking at you and you are looking back at him.

There is only 1 smaller image on the left page. In this image, he is with his girlfriend at the time of the interview, being Selena Gomez. This image goes well with the double page spread, as it is about being a boyfriend.

There is no introduction, but there is a by line, which says “Dating dramas, family feuds and coping with crazy fans - could good boy JUSTIN have finally gone a little bit bad?” This tells you what the interview includes.

The main article takes up the whole of the of the left page, which mainly includes the exclusive interview.

There are no drop cap’s in this double page spread, as it it an interview.

For the smaller image on the left page, there is a caption that says “Biebs takes an easy stroll with Selena”. This gives the reader more information on what the image is about.

On the bottom left of the double page spread there is a website link for more information about Justin Biebers music. Also, it tells you what radio station, what date and what time Justin Biebers music will be playing on the radio.

This double page spread is taken from Top of the Pops magazine and the target audience & general theme of Top of the Pops magazines relates well to this Justin Bieber double page spread.

My second double page spread analysis is on famous rap artist, Rick Ross.

There is a heading at the top of the magazine, which says “MAN MADE”. This heading gives you a bit of an idea on what the double page spread is about and it makes sense, as there is a an image of a man on the left side of the double page spread.

The main image is of Rick Ross, which takes up the whole of the left page. In this image you can see he is wearing an expensive suit, he is wearing a fancy looking watch and ring, he is holding an expensive looking champagne bottle in his left hand and just by looking at the colour of the champagne bottle, you can tell that the bottle is expensive, as the colour is gold. He is purposely not looking at the camera and the way he is standing, gives you the impression that he is confident of himself and he is a successful person.

The introduction is under the heading, which says “Rick Ross had one hell of a year. He’s arrested speakers nationwide, while the darts of emotional artists bounced off his Teflon like roundball. Our Man of the Year says you ain’t seen nothing yet.” This introduction gives you a good idea of who Rick Ross is and what Rick Ross does. Also, in the introduction Rick Ross’s name is in bold and are the only words in bold, so that gives the reader an idea that this name is important and this is who the magazine is on.

The main article takes up the whole of the right page, which is about what Rick Ross has achieved, who he’s been working with, upcoming projects and many other exciting information about Rick Ross.

There is a huge drop capital in the beginning of the main article (capital T), this is used at the start of the paragraph, which makes it easer for the reader and acts as navigation through text.

Under the main image of Rick Ross, there is a caption on the bottom right of the page, that says “Flavors tuxedo, artist own shoes and shades”. This gives the reader more information on what Rick Ross is exactly wearing.

This double page spread is taken from The source magazine and the target audience & general theme of The source’s magazines relates well to this Rick Ross double page spread.
